Share enough to swap. Keep the rest private.
Plant Swap is a UK-based service operated from Plymouth. This notice explains what information we use, why we use it and the choices available to you.
Who is responsible
Plant Swap is the controller of personal information used to operate plantswap.co.uk. Privacy questions and rights requests can be sent through our contact form, where they are routed to the service operator for review.
- Contact us without publishing private details
- We aim to respond to data-rights requests within one month
- You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office
Information we collect
Account sign-in provides your email address and, where available, your name. We also store information you choose to add, including a display name, profile photo, approximate area, bio, listings, photos, saved plants, swap offers, messages, reviews, blocks and reports. Hosting systems may process basic security and request logs.
- Emails are not displayed publicly
- Exact addresses are not requested
- Public listings show only the area you enter
Why we use it
We use account, listing and conversation information to provide the service and fulfil our agreement with you. We rely on legitimate interests to prevent abuse, investigate reports, secure the platform and improve reliability. We may also retain or disclose information where the law requires it. We do not use consent as a condition of ordinary swapping and do not currently send marketing emails.
Storage and sharing
Information is processed by providers that host Plant Swap, store uploads and provide account sign-in. We share only what is needed for those services, safety investigations or a legal requirement. Plant Swap does not sell personal information. Some providers may process information outside the UK under their own safeguards.
Retention
Account information is kept while your account is active. Closing an account removes public profile data and listings, while limited swap, message and safety records may be retained in anonymised or restricted form where needed for disputes, abuse prevention or legal obligations. Support requests are normally kept for up to two years and safety reports for up to five years.
Your rights and choices
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to our use of your information. Profile details can be edited in your dashboard, and you can export or close your account there. Essential account and security technologies are used to run the service; Plant Swap does not currently use advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies.
